Manchester United and Liverpool are showing an interest in Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to reports.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Arsenal back in 2017. Chamberlain, now 28, has since endured a mixed stint at Anfield.
The midfielder’s time on Merseyside has been marred by injury issues, leading to several players coming in and pushing the former Southampton man down the pecking order at Liverpool.
At present, all of Thiago, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and James Milner are ahead of the Ox in the eyes of Jurgen Klopp.
As a result, it was not too surprising to see Chamberlain handed just eight starts in the Premier League during 2021/22, and not a single outing in the Champions League past the group stage.
Now, with Chamberlain having just one year left to run on his current Liverpool deal, his future is up in the air.
Given how far down he is in the pecking order at Liverpool, it would make sense for the Reds to cash in on him now, rather than losing him for free in the summer.
And, according to reports, Oxlade-Chamberlain wants a transfer from Liverpool this summer amid interest from the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa.
It is added that Liverpool will allow Chamberlain to leave the club this summer if a suitable offer comes in.
It is not mentioned how much Liverpool would actually want for Chamberlain, but given he is in the final year of his contract and not a regular starter for Liverpool, it is hard to see him setting any club back too much.
