Arsenal appear to have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Sassuolo and Italy striker, Gianluca Scamacca.
Sassuolo signed Scamacca all the way back in 2017, when he joined the club from PSV’s youth system.
The forward subsequently impressed on loan, and was finally handed a chance at his parent club this past season.
And, so far, Scamacca is taking full advantage of that opportunity. He scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A outings in 2021/22. He was also called up to the Italian national team for the first time in September of last year.
Scamacca is under contract with his current side until 2026, but that has not stopped Arsenal showing an interest.
Italian outlet the Gazzetta dello Sport claimed earlier this month that Arsenal had made a £35m offer for Scamacca, but it was rejected.
Now, however, Arsenal do look to have been handed something of a boost in their pursuit of Scamacca.
This comes amid reports that Uruguayan striker Agustin Alvarez has left Penarol to join Sassuolo.
This could be seen as Sassuolo signing a replacement for Scamacca and moreover, as shown below, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Scamacca ‘could really leave’ Sassuolo this summer:
Talented Uruguayan striker Agustín Álvarez leaves Peñarol to join Italian side Sassuolo. Full agreement now reached and signed – Álvarez will be in Italy next week, €11m fee agreed. 🇺🇾🤝 #transfers
Many clubs want Gianluca Scamacca – he could really leave Sassuolo this summer.
