Arsenal-linked Memphis Depay could be set to leave FC Barcelona this summer, according to reports.
Depay would join the Spanish powerhouse on a free transfer last summer after his contract with Lyon expired.
He went on to open 2021/22 as Barca’s main striker, scoring four and assisting two in his first eight La Liga outings of the campaign.
However, due to a combination of injury, a change in manager and a busy January for Barcelona, Depay now appears to be a fringe option.
The 28-year-old scored 12 in 28 La Liga games over the course of 2021/22, but the fact he completed 90 minutes just once in the league during the current year shows how far down the pecking order he is.
Instead, La Blaugrana have been relying on Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for most of their goals.
So, it was not too surprising to see reports coming from Spain earlier this year claiming that Tottenham had made an offer for the Dutch international.
Of course, no move transpired and talks of Spurs’ interest in Depay has since dwindled.
Now though, Spanish outlet Sport, via Sport Witness, have claimed that Barcelona are open to selling to Memphis Depay.
It is added that Arsenal have been linked with the Dutchman in recent months and he could potentially add more experience to the Gunners’ young front line.
On paper, Arsenal moving for Depay may not be a terrible idea. The Dutchman has one year left on his contract, so he is unlikely to be too expensive. He is also a versatile option and, along with someone like Gabriel Jesus, could provide Arsenal with the firepower they lacked last term.
