Marseille are eyeing a move for a second Arsenal defender, it has been claimed.
The Gunners loaned William Saliba to the French outfit for the 2021/22 season. And it was a great move for Marseille, with Saliba impressing throughout the campaign and even earning a call-up to the French national team.
Following his success, former Arsenal star and now Marseille player Matteo Guendouzi urged Saliba to return to the club next season: “William now has Marseille in his heart and I am sure that he will come back to Marseille next season.
“So I am going to try to push again for him to stay with us.”
Saliba, however, has other ideas and has already basically confirmed he will line out for Arsenal in 2022/23: “I belong to Arsenal, I still have two years left.
“I will be back with Arsenal [for pre-season]. I have played no matches and I still want to show them my true face and have the chance to play for these fans and this great club.
“But it doesn’t just depend on me. In any case, to leave like this, would be a shame.”
Now, with Saliba not returning to Marseille, it is being claimed that the French side are eyeing a loan move for Nuno Tavares.
Tavares joined Arsenal last summer from Benfica and endured a mixed debut season in England, often shining in attack but floundering in defence.
Marseille’s interest could open the door for Arsenal to move on the left-back after a poor start at the club and replace him with someone like Aaron Hickey of Bologna, who the Gunners have been linked with previously.
