Chelsea could be set to secure the services of Sergino Dest from FC Barcelona, it has been reported.
According to 90min , Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta remains keen to leave the club in favour of a move to Barcelona, with Marcos Alonso also hopeful of joining him at Camp Nou.
Azpilicueta is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2023, but there was believed to be an agreement in place with the defender and the club before Todd Boehly took over that he could leave for a small fee this summer.
Chelsea will also come to a conclusion on the future of left-back Alonso, who is keen to make the move to Barcelona alongside his countryman and teammate.
And, as per 90min, Chelsea are understood to be willing to let Alonso return to Spain as they already have a replacement for him lined up in the form of Emerson, who has now returned to west Londoner after loan spell with Lyon last season.
Furthermore, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will be given the final say on Alonso’s future at the club, and he will also be given the chance to sign Barcelona’s Sergino Dest in exchange as well.
The American is on the fringes of Xavi’s squad at Camp Nou and his ability to play on both sides of the defence could make him a valuable asset for Tuchel should Azpilicueta, who had previously provided cover at right-wing-back, leave the club with Alonso this summer.
Unlike Alonso, though, Dest has very little experience in a wing-back role, so swapping him for two players who have impressed at wing-back previously may be something of a risk.
