Tottenham are ready to turn their attentions to Chelsea target Jonathan Clauss after another failed round of talks for Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence despite the Englishman himself being keen on the move.
It was widely assumed that a move for Spence would have been a formality this summer for Antonio Conte’s side, with the high-flying defender having impressed while at loan with Nottingham Forest, helping them to Premier League promotion.
However, according to Sky Sports, a second round of talks between the clubs has left Tottenham and Middlesbrough both still apart in their valuations of the player, with the Lilywhites ready to move on should the failure to reach an agreement persist.

Clauss an option
And, as per Sky, Lens defender Jonathan Clauss is one of those options, with the 29-year-old down to the final year of his contract with the Ligue 1 side and having made it clear that he will not sign a new deal.
They will face competition, however, with Chelsea also thought to be keen on the defender this summer. The Blues are looking to find competent cover for Reece James, and have identified the defender as their main target for that position.
Clauss would be available for around £10m for any prospective buyer, with the right-back having impressed Didier Deschamps enough to earn his first France call-up.
His signature, however, could be harder to land than Spence’s this summer.
