Reports coming out of Italy have provided an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Juventus and Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt
After several impressive seasons at Ajax, which saw him captain the side, win the Eredivisie and reach the Champions League semi-finals, De Ligt was snapped up by Juventus in the summer of 2019.
The Italian powerhouse are believed to have paid big money, around £76m, to bring the centre-back to Turin.
Since his move to Italy, however, De Ligt has not had the best of times, as Juve failed to defend their Serie A in 2020/21 before once again missing out on the title last season.
Now, with De Ligt having just two years left to run on his current Juventus contract, it appears Chelsea are eyeing the Dutchman.
The Blues have been heavily linked with De Ligt during the last week. This also comes with previous centre-back target Jules Kounde seemingly more likely to join FC Barcelona over Chelsea.
Now, as mentioned above, an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of De Ligt has been provided on Sunday.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Chelsea offered Juventus €40m plus the choice of Timo Werner or Christian Pulisic.
However, Massimiliano Allegri is not believed to be too keen on either player, with Juve instead wanting straight cash for their star defender.
And, according to Tuttosport, Juventus are demanding €100m from Chelsea for De Ligt.
Said sum would make De Ligt one of the Premier League’s most expensive signings, and the most expensive centre-back ahead of Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
