A large metal object crashed outside the main entrance of the State House in Augusta on Friday, narrowly missing a Capitol police screener.
The mystery 6-to-7 pound sleeve-like object landed at high speeds 6 to 8 feet from Capitol Police Screener Craig Donahue as he was walking outside, according to Chief Matthew Clancy of the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Donahue and two other people who were in the area at the time were not injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation and is attempting to locate where the part came from — likely from a large airliner on an international route, Clancy said.
