OGUNQUIT, Maine — An historic antique shop in Ogunquit was destroyed in a fire Saturday morning.
Fire crews responded to a blaze at Hutchins’ Antiques on Route 1 around 8 a.m. that officials say began in the attic of the building.
There were no injuries.
The building is more than 180 years old, according to the shop’s Facebook page, and fire officials said between the age and the antiques inside, this was a high value building.
It was a challenge working in a building cluttered with antiques, but they were still able to save a lot of what was inside, firefighters said.
“We did make an initial attack but part of the building collapsed on those guys while they were at the entrance,” Ogunquit Fire Chief Russell Osgood said. “This is actually a pretty good outcome. There were a lot of contents that were saved.”
The fire marshal’s office is still investigating the cause.
