HOULTON, Maine — Lee Ann Daigle pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter in the 1985 death of her newborn infant, Baby Jane Doe, in Houlton Superior Court.
Last year, after DNA evidence linked Daigle to Baby Jane Doe, Maine State Police arrested the 58-year-old Massachusetts woman and a grand jury indicted her on one count of intentional, knowing or depraved murder.
In court on Thursday, Judge Stephen Nelson accepted Daigle’s plea following detailed reading of the evidence in the case.
Baby Jane Doe’s body was found naked and partially frozen in a gravel pit by a dog in Frenchville.
Daigle remains free on bail until her sentencing hearing, which is yet to be scheduled.
She faces up to 20 years imprisonment and up to $50,000 in fines.
