PORTLAND, Maine — The large cloud of smoke seen over Casco Bay on Friday afternoon is the result of a controlled burn.
The controlled burn on Richmond Island is being conducted by the U.S. Forest Service, according to the Portland Police Department. Members of the public do not need to report the fire, as it is being monitored.
