Family goals! The Met Gala is only complete with reality TV’s favorite family, the Kardashians.
The first of the brood to attend fashion’s biggest night was Kim Kardashian, in 2013, as ex-husband Kanye West’s plus one. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum was pregnant with her daughter North at the time and wore an intricate floral gown by Givenchy.
In a May 2019 tweet, the Skims founder reflected on her look from six years prior. “I didn’t know anyone & I’m sure no one wanted me there lol, she wrote, going on to reference memes made about her matching gloves and dress. “I went home & cried after of insecurity but this is one of my fave looks.”
Kim soon became a staple of the Met Gala red carpet, and her designer ensembles continued to wow fans. In September 2021, the KKW Beauty founder arrived in an all-black Balenciaga dress, complete with a long train, waist-length ponytail and a mask over her face. She later revealed in a February 2022 interview with Vogue that she had to be talked into wearing the futuristic take on a T-shirt, teasing “I was like, ‘I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?’”
The Selfish author isn’t the only member of her family to turn heads at the Met Gala. In May 2014, Kendall Jenner made her first appearance at the event in a pearly Topshop gown that featured a strapless neckline and a mermaid silhouette. Since, she’s slayed nearly-naked gowns, beaded ensembles and has even matched her sister Kylie Jenner for a number of looks.
In May 2019, the sibling duo perfectly complemented each other in Versace dresses. Kylie, for her part, looked seriously stunning in a beaded strapless dress, lavender feathered sleeves and a matching lilac wig. Kendall contrasted the Kylie Cosmetics founder in a fiery orange gown finished with crystal embellishments and a sleeve of feathers.
Momager Kris Jenner always looks beautiful in gowns of her own, from a gold and black Tommy Hilfiger look in 2018 to a Jackie Kennedy-inspired dress designed by Oscar de la Renta in 2022. The Kardashians star notoriously arrives at the ball early so she can adoringly watch her daughters walk up the iconic museum stairs.
In 2022, the Met was graced by all of the Kardashian women — including Kourtney Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian, who attended for the first time. The family commanded attention on the red carpet. Kourtney matched with husband Travis Barker for her look, which featured a deconstructed skirt and top from Thom Browne. Khloé sported a golden bodycon piece by Moschino. Kendall and Kylie both wore ball gown skirts, and Kim made headlines for wearing the dress Marilyn Monroe had on while she sang “Happy Birthday” to late President John F. Kennedy in May 1962.
