PORTER, Maine — A woman was transported to a local hospital after being bitten by a black bear in Porter on Friday.
Mark Latti, the spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, said that the woman was bitten at her home at around 11:30 a.m.
The woman heard her dog barking outside at the bear, went outside to investigate and then was bitten on the arm shortly after, Latti said. Although the extent of her injuries was not clear Friday afternoon, she was transported to a local hospital and is alert and conscious.
Further information on the animal was not available on Friday afternoon.
