Police haven’t been able to get ahold of the person who owns a BMW sedan that was pulled out of the Androscoggin River.
The four-door cream-colored vehicle was spotted by a passerby off Island Avenue, which is near Main and Canal streets, at around 10:30 a.m. on July 6. No body was found in the vehicle or during a search of the area.
Police were able to identify the vehicle owner through the registration, but they have not been answering calls, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal. While Lt. Derrick St. Laurent of the Lewiston Police Department told the newspaper that it isn’t illegal to destroy personal property, he said “you can’t just put a car in the river, either.”
The owner will be responsible for the cost of retrieving the vehicle from the river.
