With millions of square miles of forest and many places where humans don’t ever go, it’s impossible to know exactly what happens in the Maine woods.
Once again, intrepid adventurer, conservationist and photographer Colin Chase of Gray has provided us with some incredible behind-the-scenes looks at wildlife in its natural habitat.
This video is befitting of even the most creative, high-profile wildlife TV programs and features one of the state’s most iconic animals: moose.
The star of the show is a rambunctious moose calf. As its mother feeds on aquatic vegetation, the young moose prances, stomps, frolics and splashes around in the shallow water.
It almost seems as though the calf is playing with an invisible friend, or is trying to get away from something that is bothering it.
About halfway through Chase’s video, the calf runs to its mother’s side for a brief rest, then resumes running and splashing through the water.
All that water noise appears to finally get the best of the young one, as it squats to urinate after it runs, at least temporarily, out of energy.
Our thanks to Colin Chase for giving Bangor Daily News readers this special chance to witness the amusing and touching show provided by the moose.
