Three men from Norridgewock are accused of assaulting police officers in Waterville after a traffic stop on Wednesday.
Police stopped 41-year-old Jeffrey Obert for suspected traffic violations near the Fireside Inn on Main Street, according to the Waterville Morning Sentinel.
During the stop, Obert’s father, 69-year-old Bruce Obert, allegedly crossed the median into the opposite lane to pull up alongside the officers in his truck and started yelling at them, the Sentinel reported.
An officer then pursued Bruce Obert, who eventually stopped by the nearby Walmart and allegedly attacked the officer, according to the Morning Sentinel.
Meanwhile, an officer issued Jeffrey Obert a warning and sent him on his way.
That officer left and then saw Bruce Obert allegedly attacking the officer at Walmart, according to the Sentinel. The officer stopped to help.
Shortly after, authorities told the Sentinel that Jeffrey Obert and his passenger, 33-year-old Steven Kirkwood, arrived at the Walmart and also allegedly assaulted the officers.
Other officers then arrived, and the three men were taken into custody.
Bruce Obert was charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention, assault and failing to stop for an officer, while Jeffrey Obert and Kirkwood were each charged with assault and obstructing government administration.
Two officers reportedly suffered bumps and bruises during the assault but did not seek medical attention.
