I think a recent letter to the editor from Hampden resident Ron Goldstone suggesting that publications like the Los Angeles Times and the Bangor Daily News are providing political cover for President Joe Biden’s alleged misdeeds is ludicrous.
Goldstone accuses the newspapers of marginalizing Republican efforts in Congress to, in effect, bring the current president to justice for, in his words, “considerable real estate holdings and alleged offshore bank accounts.”
These accusations have been fodder for Fox News for months and their endless repetition has achieved the apparent desired effect to cast Biden as a grifter and a conman, at least in the eyes of acolytes of former President Donald Trump who feel their man has been unfairly targeted of late by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Biden’s wayward son Hunter might in fact have been involved in shady business practices over the years, but there is no actual evidence that the current president was also involved or profited from his son’s association with foreign business partners.
Several committees in the Republican-controlled House have promised bombshells about how the current president monetized his political influence, but so far have offered no proof.
