An Augusta man wanted for homicide in Maine was arrested by police in Mississippi earlier this month, according to Maine State Police.
Andrew Redmond, 34, was taken into custody by Biloxi Mississippi Police Department on Sept. 11 after a chase. Maine State Police say a coordinated effort with its Major Crimes Unit and the Federal Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force tracked Redmond to Mississippi.
Redmond and his wife 33-year-old Danielle Redmond, also of Augusta, were traveling on Interstate 10 in Biloxi, according to police, when officers with the Biloxi Police Department tried to stop their vehicle. Initially, Redmond did not stop, police say, but after a chase, he pulled over and submitted to arrest.
Danielle Redmond was charged with failing to comply, according to the Biloxi Police Department. Andrew Redmond was arrested and brought to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center in Gulfport, Mississippi, to await extradition to Maine.
Redmond is a suspect in the murder of 34-year-old Tyler Robinson of Augusta on July 28.
Robinson was found unresponsive on the side of Old Belgrade Road in Augusta. Police say Redmond and Robinson were familiar with each other but have not disclosed additional details.
