A new collectable 50p coin featuring the children’s book The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe has been issued by the Royal Mint.
An original colour illustration of characters has been reproduced in fine detail of Mr Tumnus and Lucy walking through the snowy woods in Narnia, measuring only 27.3 milimetres.
is featured on the back, with them walking through the snowy woods in Narnia.
The process required designers to digitally translate Pauline Baynes’ illustration on to a coin, ensuring that no detail was lost.
The celebration of CS Lewis’s story, first published in 1950, is part of the Mint’s classic children’s literature series.
Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, said the fantasy novel was “globally adored”.
It has “enchanted people with a magical realm” and “captured the imagination of readers in the UK and worldwide”, she added.
“In keeping with CS Lewis’s novel, the coin design features the original illustration that appears in the book, making it the perfect keepsake for any fan of this story,” Ms Morgan said.
