When they are not prowling woods and neighborhoods looking for mice and other food, red foxes can be quite personable.
Maine has red foxes in all 16 counties, as well as the less prevalent gray foxes in southern and midcoast areas, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Foxes are classified as furbearers and can be hunted and trapped.
These two red foxes could be littermates, judging from the frisky way they are romping around here.
Red foxes are especially active at dawn and dusk, but can be seen any time of the day or night, according to DIF&W.
Watch these two play in Dan MacLeod’s yard in Unity earlier this week near a foam archery target, which seems to be a fun new mystery toy to them.
