A Maine teen accused of plotting to commit mass killing at South Portland High School could be held at Long Creek Youth Development Center until his case is closed.
In April, police arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly was planning to hire someone to kill people at South Portland High School.
He was then released and is back home with his family.
In September, he was charged with more crimes following his initial arrest in April.
Prosecutors allege the teen, last fall, “intended to commit the crime of murder.” The teen allegedly “did attempt to induce another person, an accomplice, to commit murder against faculty, staff and/or students at South Portland High School,” according to court papers.
Cumberland County’s district attorney is recommending the teen be detained at Long Creek, but it will be up to a judge to decide.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the teen’s father, Adam Hamilton, pleaded not guilty to hindering police during a search of his home, obstructing police from arresting his son and refusing to submit to arrest.
