As a Jew with family living in Israel, I am disgusted and saddened by the current violence by Hamas against the people of Israel but even more horrified by the Israeli government’s constant oppression of Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank for 75-plus years.
The only way for Israelis and Palestinians to have peace and security in the Middle East is for both to acknowledge the need for mutual recognition and respect. The U.S. Congress and president have mostly only condemned the Palestinians and our government continues to send massive amounts of military aid to the Israeli government.
Instead of taking sides, we should be advocating an end to all violence in the region and sending peace envoys, not war planes.
