A Bangor man was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor for possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.
Chad Savage, 34, was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty on June 13.
Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigators searched a vehicle driven by Savage in June 2022 after receiving information that he had bought a large quantity of drugs in Massachusetts to sell in Bangor, the DOJ said in a press release, citing court records.
In the glove compartment, they found 50 pressed “sticks” of suspected fentanyl that a lab later confirmed to be 588.7 grams of fentanyl. Less than two milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal, depending on a person’s body size, tolerance and past usage, according to the DOJ.
Savage told police that he traveled to Massachusetts to get the drugs and estimated that he had been provided with 1,000 grams of fentanyl.
