Dozens of protesters gathered Tuesday morning at Portland’s Harbor View Memorial Park, where city workers planned to clear a homeless encampment.
That comes about a week after the city delayed clearing the encampment because of poor weather.
Now that operation is resuming with sunny skies across the state.
Protesters parked cars on Commercial Street to block heavy equipment from accessing the park, while they also linked arms to prevent police and city workers from entering the encampment near the Casco Bay Bridge.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office brought in a large transport bus, potentially indicating police expect to arrest many people.
