Maine’s deer have plenty of challenges to overcome during the winter months.
Most of the issues revolve around the difficulty of finding enough food to help them endure the cold, snowy conditions.
And then there are predators. Deer have to be on the alert for coyotes, which can sometimes take advantage of the deer’s difficulty negotiating deep snow.
Even so, white-tailed deer are not easy targets for the coyotes. Today’s contributed video from Barak Gurney shows a pair of deer bounding into the woods followed, several seconds later, by a trit-trotting coyote in hot pursuit.
It’s a game of hide-and-seek with life or death consequences, one we don’t often get a chance to witness.
