Friday is off to a wet and messy start with snow, mixed precipitation and rain.
Expect some type of winter precipitation for most of the day, with highs lingering in the 30s. Along the coastline and in southern Maine, precipitation will begin as rain, but there is a likely chance for a switchover.
Not that far inland and north, it will be a messy wintry mix for much of the day. Snow will fall inland and in the mountain areas.
The evening commute later Friday will still be messy, especially inland as temps hover near freezing levels.
The mountains will receive between 2 inches and 5 inches of snow. Farther south and closer to the coast will see less snow accumulation and more mixing into rain and just sleet.
Saturday will mostly entail plenty of clouds, but there is a chance for snow showers and flurries during the morning hours. Temps will run into the 30s, increasing to the upper-30s by Sunday.
Our Weather Authority team is tracking what looks like a coastal storm for late Sunday into Monday. As of Friday morning, it still looks like Maine will be situated on the northern edge of a coastal storm tracking to our south, impacting more so southern New England.
Snow is looking possible for southern Maine within that time frame.
