A former standout Maine athlete was killed late last year in Denver, but police still haven’t found her body.
Denver police on Monday confirmed the death of 27-year-old Naudiarella “Naudia” Wesley to the Sun Journal.
The circumstances of Wesley’s death remain murky because police have yet to find her body and the man suspected of killing her is dead as well, according to the Sun Journal.
Police received an anonymous tip that 26-year-old Keelynn Ashworth had killed a woman. The tipster didn’t identify the woman he allegedly killed. And when detectives went to execute a search warrant at his home on Dec. 1, 2023, Ashworth shot himself, the Sun Journal reported.
Wesley hadn’t been reported missing, having left Maine years earlier, and without an identity from the tipster, it took police a while to determine Wesley was the victim, according to the newspaper.
She was likely killed on Nov. 13, 2023.
Her family told the Sun Journal that detectives informed them that Wesley’s body was dumped in a landfill.
Wesley was born in Florida and grew up in Buckfield. The Sun Journal described her as a “standout athlete” at Buckfield Senior High School, playing basketball, soccer and track.
Police continue to investigate Wesley’s death.
