A final quiet and mild day is expected Monday before a storm brings snowfall to southern Maine on Tuesday with a sharp cutoff in totals as you head north.
Cold air then moves in for the rest of the week, with additional chances for snow later in the week.
Monday will be mild and nice. We’ll see partly cloudy skies and above average temperatures in the lower or even mid-40s.
Timing
A nor’easter moves into the region Tuesday morning, bringing snow and wind to southern Maine.
Snow begins between 8 and 10 a.m. and wraps up between 6 and 9 p.m.
Snow
Snow totals will be highest in southern Maine, especially in York County, where up to 2 to 5 inches are forecast.
A very sharp cutoff in totals is expected north of the Portland area where we may struggle to get more than an inch or so of snow.
The mountains see hardly anything, maybe some flurries to a coating.
Inland toward Bangor, people may see at most an inch of snow but at the very least a dusting.
Coastal flooding
The storm coincides with the highest tides of the month. While coastal flooding does not look as significant as last month’s historic storms, minor to moderate coastal flooding looks likely around the 1:30 p.m. high tide.
Additional erosion, splash over, minor damage and road closures are possible.
Winds
Winds aren’t likely to cause blizzard conditions or power outages, but they will be gusty, especially along the coast on Tuesday.
Gusts up to 35 mph will make travel difficult and lead to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in York County.
Weather outlook
After this storm wraps up Tuesday evening, quieter weather arrives for Wednesday. Highs will be cold in the 20s, with breezy winds and a mix of sun and clouds.
Thursday looks a little milder. Highs will be in the low to mid-30s with increasing clouds.
A clipper system moves in Thursday night. Widespread light snow looks likely across the state and will likely affect the Friday morning commute. A couple to a few inches of snow look possible with this before it wraps up late morning Friday.
The weekend looks cool, with potentially another round of light snow on Saturday.
