A man will spend five years behind bars for trying to shoot a woman fleeing from him in Waterville.
Maurice Watkins-Cundiff, 31, pleaded guilty Thursday in Augusta to charges of attempted elevated aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and violation of condition of release, according to the Kennebec Journal.
An attempted murder charge was dismissed.
Watkins-Cundiff was sentenced to nine years in prison, with all but five years suspended, and three years of probation, the Kennebec Journal reported.
In 2022, police arrested Watkins-Cundiff for suspicion of OUI and driving without a license.
Officials then found evidence he had fired more than a dozen gunshots at his former partner as she fled in a car.
Watkins-Cundiff could face up to nine years in prison if he violates the three years of probation after his sentence.
