A man died early Friday morning in a Madawaska house fire.
The fire broke out about 12:39 a.m. at the single-family home on Fifth Avenue, trapping 62-year-old Gary Levesque and his sister, 70-year-old Diana Levesque, inside, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Two police officers entered the home and saved Diana Levesque, who was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent before being airlifted to a southern Maine hospital, Moss said Friday afternoon.
Both officers suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from a local hospital.
Gary Levesque remained trapped in the home, and no one could make it inside and reach him, according to Moss.
Levesque’s body was taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy.
The fire remains under investigation, but foul play isn’t suspected.
