It is time for Maine to step up and adopt stronger clean cars standards. We’ve always had strong emission standards, and we can’t afford to shy away from the EV transition while other states are moving forward.
Climate change is wreaking havoc on the Maine coastline. Encouraging the transition to zero-emission vehicles in Maine is critical to reduce pollution from transportation and is one of the ways we can help mitigate this.
As of May 2022 my family’s vehicles are fully electric. My wife commutes 25 miles each way to and from work and I drive in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York state for work. We have been able to get everywhere we need to go while saving money on fuel and maintenance costs. My last estimate was that we have not bought 4,000 gallons of fuel since May 2022.
Charging at home is easy, and with no oil changes or engine problems, we are rarely spending money on fixes. I hope we will make it easier for other Mainers to make the same choice by adopting stronger clean car standards.
I think we need to adopt the proposed Advanced Clean Cars II standards. For climate change, for our economy, and for our future, this is the right move.
