ORONO — Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center will host its first Youth Mental Health Summit on Friday, March 15 at the University of Maine from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This event, Break the Silence. End the Stigma. is open to all Greater Bangor area high school students interested in mental health.

This is a free event, and all area high school students are encouraged to register.
Young people are passionate about mental health. A recent Centers for Disease Control study found that 42 percent of teens experience persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness. In Maine, between 15 and 20 percent of middle school and high school students seriously consider suicide.
