The Bangor Region YMCA has been awarded $5 million in federal funding through the 2024 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill.
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, who is vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced the funding on Monday.
The money will go toward a planned 30,000-square-foot Comprehensive Health Center that will host programs related to infants, early education and after-school care, a food pantry and public health. The programs will aim to “address issues such as loneliness and isolation,” according to the YMCA.
The award came from more than $577 million allocated to Maine organizations through the federal appropriations process.
