Race community raises close to $50,000 for Preble Street Teen Services
CAPE ELIZABETH – Registration for the iconic TD Beach to Beacon 10K, which will take place Saturday, Aug. 3 in Cape Elizabeth, has sold out.
On Thursday 600 race slots were made available to Cape Elizabeth residents (which filled in the first hour of registration yesterday) and on Friday, 6,000 slots were made available to general entry. In less than two days the event has nearly sold out with less than 500 bibs still available.
The generous race community donated during registration $48,816.65 to this year’s beneficiary, Preble Street Teen Services.
Based in Portland, Preble Street Teen Shelter serves more than 300 youth statewide each year, including young teens who have been forced to leave home because of physical or sexual abuse and young adults struggling with substance use and/or mental illness.
Preble Street Teen Services is a hub of services for homeless and runaway youth, providing immediate access and an acclaimed service coordination model. As the core component of Preble Street Teen Services, the Teen Center helps to meet immediate needs — providing warmth and safety, nutritious meals, clothing, and crisis intervention — while building positive relationships with young people, enhancing their self-esteem, and offering them the opportunity to develop life skills that promote stability and independence.
Preble Street Teen Services will also receive $30,000 from TD Bank and further benefit from fundraising activities, including the race’s charity bib program, as well as increased awareness through its association with one of Maine’s premier sporting events.
