ELLSWORTH — Monday morning, April 29, several employees of Bangor Federal Credit Union met with volunteers at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Ellsworth to present them with a check for $10,000 to aid in the organization’s continued battle against food insecurity in Hancock County.
Loaves & Fishes is one of the largest food pantries in Hancock County that serves some 7,100 people. They have seen a massive uptick in need from the community, experiencing a 70 percent increase in pantry usage in recent years.
It’s in the spirit of alleviating this food insecurity that Bangor Federal proudly participates in the Maine Credit Union League’s Campaign for Ending Hunger. Since 1990, credit unions around the state have collectively raised more than $13.5 million for ending hunger in Maine.
“Giving back to our communities is a large part of our mission”, said Cody Morgan, marketing director at Bangor Federal. “That’s what makes moments like this so immensely special to us. We feel so incredibly blessed to be able to support them and their continued movement towards ending food insecurity in our neighborhoods, amongst our friends, and in our families.”
