The BDN’s recent story about freshman state Rep. Austin Theriault’s new campaign ad suggests to me that he will never be anything but a rubber stamp for MAGA Republicans and their doctrine of denialism. Theriault credits Donald Trump for fighting for the American people as president.
I think that Trump’s only major legislative accomplishment was a tax cut for the rich. Theriault applauds Trump because “he took on China.” In fact, Trump’s trade war with China added $80 billion worth of new taxes on Americans. And Trump’s disdain for science led to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths in the U.S. in the early days of the pandemic. Hardly heroic and not someone I would champion as a candidate for Congress.
