Voters in November will decide the state flag design according to the front page of the BDN on May 17.
If we voters get to decide that important visual issue, why in the world don’t we get to decide about our beloved chickadee license plates? The chickadee plates are attractive and well designed, including both the state bird (chickadee) and the state flower and tree (white pine and cone). They are probably much more recognizable as being “Maine” than either of the flag choices by people in/from other states.
At least we should be given the choice of keeping the chickadee if we are willing to pay for it! Include it in the list of purchasable options if nothing else. I would buy one, and I bet lots of other Mainers would also!
Save the chickadee!
