Emergency crews responded to reports of gunshots, explosions and two homes on fire on Russell Avenue in Auburn early Saturday.
A shelter-in-place order was in effect for part of the night but has since been lifted, Auburn police said in a Facebook post.
According to the Sun Journal, three explosions were reported in the area at about 2:15 a.m. and another was heard just before 3 a.m. A gunman was also reported to be inside a garage at the scene and gunshots were heard, the Sun Journal reported. It is unclear whether the gunman was located by police, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Bangor Daily News.
Smoke and fire were seen coming from the homes by 3:15 a.m. and police told residents in the area to stay inside amid the unfolding situation, according to the Sun Journal.
Auburn police posted an update to Facebook stating that the situation had been resolved and there was no ongoing threat to the public.
