A man drowned on Father’s Day while fishing with his son on the Kennebec River.
The man was fishing below the Solon Dam about 9 a.m. Sunday when he slipped and his waders filled with water, weighing him down, according to the Waterville Morning Sentinel.
Anson Fire Chief Stacy Beane told the Sentinel that the man’s son tried to pull him out, but “got exhausted and couldn’t.”
Rescuers had to cut holes in the man’s waders just to get his body to shore, Beane told the newspaper.
The man’s identity hasn’t been released, pending family notification.
