Meteorologists from the National Weather Service were scheduled to be in Maine on Monday to assess damage from Sunday’s intense storm.
Specifically, the surveys are to determine whether tornadoes touched down during the storms, the Boston Globe reported.
The teams were planning to visit two locations spanning three counties. The first area is near Sherman and Haynesville in Penobscot and Aroostook counties. The second area is south of Millinocket along Route 11 to Brownville in Piscataquis County.
The NWS station in Caribou issued a tornado warning on Sunday for portions of southeastern Aroostook County, including North Amity, Haynesville and Orient, along with numerous severe thunderstorm warnings across Maine.
The NWS said it plans to issue a final assessment including results of the surveys on Tuesday, July 2.
