The skeletal remains found by utility workers in Gorham in May have been identified.
The remains were identified on Tuesday as those of 45-year-old Michael Phillips-Townsend of Westbrook, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Phillips-Townsend was reported missing in 2019, the Press Herald reported.
The cause of death was not determined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, but police told the Press Herald that foul play is not suspected.
Phillips-Townsend was in “deteriorating health” and had left a note for his roommate that said he was walking out of town, according to the Press Herald.
The remains were found on May 21 by utility workers near Longfellow Road.
