A New Sharon man reported missing Monday was found by rescuers in a bog Friday afternoon.
Michael Altmaier was reported missing after never showing up to a meeting he had scheduled in Weld Monday, according to a press release from Mark Latti, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. Altmaier’s car was found Thursday night at the Mount Blue State Park overlook in Weld, prompting a search of the park by rescuers Friday morning.
Game Warden Kyle Hamilton and his K9 discovered Altmaier at 3:45 p.m. near a bog less than a mile from his car.
Altmaier likely fell down an embankment Monday and became disoriented, Latti says, and ended up falling in the area of the bog. He was not able to get up and remained there until rescuers arrived.
Altmaier was flown via helicopter out of the bog and taken to a local hospital for treatment, however Latti notes Altmaier was in “surprisingly good condition” despite spending the previous four days stuck in the bog.
