Truck goes through covered bridge in Windham, falls into river below

WINDHAM, Maine – A Maine DOT spokesperson says a loaded gravel truck went through Babb’s Covered Bridge in Windham and fell into the Presumpscot River below.

Officials say there is a large hole in the bridge and the roads leading to the bridge are now closed.

No one was injured in the crash.

The Windham Police Department says Covered Bridge Road, as well the Hurricane Road on the Gorham side,  will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
