ORONO — The University of Maine is setting a new standard for campus convenience with the unveiling of a newly renovated eat>NOW store featuring Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. Located in our Wells Central Dining facility, eat>NOW is the first campus store in Maine to offer this checkout-free shopping experience, making it easier than ever for students and employees to grab what they need on the go at any time.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this cutting-edge technology to our campus community,” said UMaine Dining Resident District Manager Tadd Stone. “Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology transforms the way our students, faculty, and visitors shop by making the process faster and more convenient. This innovation embodies our commitment to bringing state-of-the-art solutions to UMaine and enhancing the overall student experience.”
With Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology, customers can enjoy a seamless shopping experience. After scanning their credit card or the Everyday app at the entry gate, they can shop freely as the system’s advanced computer vision and deep learning techniques track their selections. After the transaction is complete, they walk out of the store — no lines, no hassle. Payment is automatically processed for the items customers have taken, making shopping smoother and more efficient.
eat>NOW at Wells Central Dining will open this fall and offer a wide range of convenience items, from fresh food to personal care products.
