Two jurors helped subdue a Fairfield man convicted of assaulting a child when he fled from a courtroom on Thursday.
Nicholas Carter, 31, was found guilty of aggravated assault against a 14-month-old child after a three-day jury trial at the Somerset County Superior Court in Skowhegan, according to the Waterville Morning Sentinel.
After the jury returned the verdict, Carter, who was handcuffed, jumped over a barrier and ran through a rear door of the second-floor courtroom, down stairs, down a hallway and out into the street, the Sentinel reported.
He eventually tripped and fell in a nearby yard, where two jurors who had been in court helped subdue him until a detective caught up, according to the newspaper.
Carter will be sentenced at a later date.
