A Plymouth woman was arrested after a standoff Friday evening that prompted police to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents of the area.
The incident stared at 5:20 p.m. when police received a report of a suicidal woman in the Penobscot County town of Plymouth who allegedly had threatened another person with a gun, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
During the confrontation, the other person got control of the gun and went outside but the woman stayed inside, the sheriff’s office said.
After several hours during which police negotiators were unable to contact the woman, identified as Evelyn Melanson, 66, of Plymouth, police got a warrant for her arrest and a search warrant for the house.
Police eventually found Melanson in a camper and charged her with domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony; domestic violence reckless conduct, a Class D misdemeanor; and domestic violence assault, a Class D misdemeanor. Police deputies used the state’s yellow flag law.
The shelter-in-place order was lifted by early Saturday morning after Melanson’s arrest.
