Maine State Police on Wednesday released the name of the woman whose body was found in a house in the town of Mexico that burned on Sept. 26, but they stopped short of saying she died because of the fire.
The victim was Lacey Tidswell, 23, of Mexico. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said her cause and manner of death are not being released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Oxford County emergency dispatch center received a 911 call at about 7:09 a.m. reporting a fire at 5 Tucker St. in Mexico, Maine State Police and the state fire marshal’s office said in a previous joint news release.
First responders arrived at the home while the fire was still burning, primarily in the area of the front porch.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue one woman from the house. She was not injured, authorities said.
After the fire was extinguished firefighters found the body of another woman, later identified as Tidswell, inside the house.
