The Washington County Retired Teachers Association ended its schools’ support program by awarding checks for $500 dollars to each of the final four high schools in the county; Machias, Washington Academy, Calais, and East Grand. Pictured is a representative of the WCRT, Stephanie Strongin, delivering a check to East Grand Principal Mike Muir.
The checks may be used to support field trips or to engage motivational speakers for the school. Four other high schools received awards last year and in earlier years, each of the 36 county elementary schools received a treasure chest of school supplies.
WCRT is dedicated to supporting the interests of retired school personnel and supporting area schools. Their monthly meetings between April and October include an educational component. The last meeting of this year will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Adien’s Church’s Community Room in Machias. All retired school personnel are welcome to become members at that time.
