A New York man has been indicted by a Hancock County grand jury on charges related to a boating incident in Stonington this summer.
Charles Beam of Saratoga, New York, was indicted Thursday on two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident in Stonington on Aug. 15, according to the Hancock County district attorney’s office.
Beam is facing a charge of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and a charge of aggravated criminal mischief, the prosecutor’s office said. Each is a Class C charge that, if convicted, is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
He also has been charged with reckless conduct, reckless operation of a watercraft and operating a watercraft to endanger, each of which is a misdemeanor charge.
The case was investigated by Maine Marine Patrol, a division of the Department of Marine Resources. The department’s spokesperson did not return a message seeking comment on the case Friday morning.
