Maine victim assistance organizations are once again anticipating a drastic decline in their primary federal funding source — the federal Crime Victims Fund — that would endanger their ability to provide services for victims of domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, elder abuse and child abuse.
The Bangor Daily News will continue writing about the funding situation, and your stories will help fuel our reporting. We’d like to hear from people who have relied on organizations that use Crime Victims Fund money. Have you been helped in the past by any of the following groups?
- Local domestic violence or sexual assault resource centers
- Immigrant Resource Center of Maine
- Pine Tree Legal Assistance attorneys representing survivors of domestic and sexual violence
- Legal Services for Maine Elders
- Elder Abuse Institute of Maine
- victim witness advocates
- children’s advocacy centers
